My oh my what a weekend!

So most of you know that Matt and I were headed up to Seattle for a routine CF clinic appointment on Monday. Well as it happens, we also squeezed in an appointment (our first of many to come) with one of the doctors from the transplant team.

It was really nerve racking ahead of time, but after all of it I really felt better, having gotten the ball rolling as well as some of our burning questions answered. Transplant Doc was nice and informative.

Then we moved on to our regular clinic appointment. No biggee there either. Well, except for getting to tell everyone we are pregnant! It was really exciting and everyone was so happy for us. I think I got more attention at this appointment than Matt did! LOL

So at the tail end of this last appointment of the day, Matt also needed to have his medi port flushed. Well as the nurse is trying to flush the port with saline and Heparin, nothing seems to be happening as it should. No blood coming out as it should, very difficult to flush, and painful for Matt (which it usually isn't). Turns out, it was just creating a big pockety bubble of fluid under the skin. This has never happened before! They urgently send him down to X ray and find out that his port has broken! The part that threads into the artery has broken off, traveled through his heart and is now lodged in a blood vessel in his opposite lung.

After all of his doctors, who thought they had just gotten rid of him, looked at these x rays and decided that it was not in his best interest to retrieve it. Fishing it out poses more of a risk that leaving it in there until the transplant, at which time they will throw it out with the bad lungs. However they also decided that they should pretty swiftly remove the broken port and replace it.

So all of our Monday was spent at the hospital, and we had an appointment at 9 am on Tuesday.

Everything went well and we are finally back at home. Thank goodness! The whole thing has been so exhausting. Mentally and physically. But I am glad Matt is so strong and can pull through anything!

He is amazing and God reminds me frequently how lucky I am to have him.
